Description
Description
Mats Thureson is the bladesmith and owner behind Thorsson Blades, working out of Burlington, Vermont, where his craft spans two disciplines: hand-forged kitchen knives and precision tools for luthiers — the craftspeople who build and repair stringed instruments. That range shows in his approach: exacting, deliberate work built for people who use their tools daily and notice the difference.
This 8" K-Tip Bunka is a San Mai construction — a 1095 high-carbon steel core clad in A203E stainless, giving the blade a hard, edge-holding center with added protection against corrosion along its face. The K-Tip profile sharpens the traditional Bunka shape to a fine, angular point, built for precision work as much as everyday cutting. The handle is Richlite — a dense, resin-set paper composite known for its stability and low maintenance — set off by an aluminum bronze spacer.
Sourced directly from Thureson by our custom knife buying team at Blade Show 2026, this Bunka arrives with a protective zippered pouch, ready for the cutting board.

Use & Care
Use & Care
This is a one-of-one piece from an independent custom maker, built with materials that deserve a little extra attention.
- Hand wash only. Wash by hand with warm water and mild soap immediately after use, then dry completely before storing. Never put this knife in the dishwasher.
- This blade's cutting core is 1095 high-carbon steel and will patina over time — it is not fully stainless, even with its A203E cladding. Dry it fully after every use, and apply a light coat of mineral oil or knife oil if it won't be used for a while. A developing patina along the edge is normal and part of the character of this construction; it is not a defect.
- Richlite is a dense, low-maintenance composite material and requires little upkeep beyond normal hand washing.
- Store in the included zippered pouch, in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.
