Martin Huber was raised into the trade — his grandfather was a blacksmith, and both parents worked in mechanical and automotive engineering. He was introduced to the forge at age three, trained formally as a blacksmith and metal sculptor at HTL Steyr, and made his first Damascus kitchen knife as a gift for his mother — a knife she still uses today. In 2016, Huber opened his own shop in Garsten, Austria, and has since built a reputation serious enough that he now employs a small team to keep pace with demand from chefs and collectors worldwide.
This 7" Santoku carries his 50-layer Damascus, forged from O2 tool steel and 15N20 nickel alloy into a tight, flowing pattern. The handle is chestnut, warm and straight-grained, fitted with a bolster of bog oak — wood that spent centuries buried in peat bogs, emerging darkened and mineral-rich, a material with a story as old as the land it came from.
