Description

Jackson Rumble has been making knives since 2008, working out of Canberra, Australia, where he also teaches bladesmithing at Tharwa Valley Forge. He earned his ABS Journeyman Smith rating in 2019 and has since gone on to achieve the ABS Mastersmith rank — one of the most demanding certifications in the craft, requiring a maker to pass a battery of cutting, toughness, and edge-retention tests on blades of their own forging. Rumble is known for pairing his own Damascus with exotic hardwoods, drawn to how the flowing steel pattern complements the natural figure of the wood beneath it.

This 8" Gyuto carries his Raven Feather Damascus — 1084/15N20 steel forged into a sweeping, feather-like pattern — fitted to a handle of African blackwood, dense and near-black, set off by a bronze spacer.

Sourced directly from Rumble by our custom knife buying team at Blade Show 2026, this Gyuto represents the work of one of the youngest ABS Mastersmiths in the world.

Use & Care

This is a one-of-one piece from an independent custom maker, built with materials that deserve a little extra attention.

  • Hand wash only. Wash by hand with warm water and mild soap immediately after use, then dry completely before storing. Never put this knife in the dishwasher.
  • This is a high-carbon Damascus blade (1084/15N20) and will patina over time — it is not stainless. Dry it fully after every use, and apply a light coat of mineral oil or knife oil if it won't be used for a while. A developing patina is normal and part of the character of carbon steel; it is not a defect.
  • The African blackwood handle is an extremely dense natural material, but should still be kept out of prolonged soaking or extreme heat to preserve its finish.
  • Store in a dry place, away from direct sunlight, ideally in a sheath or blade guard if one is included.
