At New West KnifeWorks, we build knives that answer to the land. Born in Jackson Hole and tested by those who live closest to the edge—outfitters, guides, and serious hunters—our blades are made for those who don’t just venture into the backcountry, but live by its code.
No one understands that connection better than Brian Fifield, our Retail Director and resident knife aficionado. For over six years, Brian has helped shape what the Outfitter means to the people who carry it. And now, with the launch of the Outfitter 2.0, he’s ready to show how we’ve taken a proven legend and made it even better.
“The Outfitter is one of our most popular outdoor knives,” says Brian. “We’ve been making it for a little over six years. Designed in conjunction with a bunch of the outfitters that are actually up here. This is your go-to knife for elk, mule deer. You can skin and quarter an elk in the field with this, and hundreds of people in our Jackson Hole environment do that every single year.”
“We know this because of our lifetime sharpening. Every August we get anywhere from 10 to 30 of these a day into our Jackson store to get them sharpened for free right before archery season kicks off on September 1st.”

Outfitter 2.0 MagnaCut Edition

Gear Patrol Calls It “A Masterful Update”
We build our knives for people who live the lifestyle—but it’s nice when the experts notice. In a glowing review, Gear Patrol praised the Outfitter 2.0 as:
“An already-exceptional USA-made backcountry knife [that] just got a major blade steel upgrade.”
They highlight the MagnaCut blade, the new SureGrip handle, and the high-performance Kydex sheath as serious improvements that justify the knife’s evolution—and its place on your belt.
“It houses the kind of knife you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again,” the review notes.
And we couldn’t agree more.
What’s New in 2.0? Everything That Matters.
For those who’ve relied on the Outfitter in seasons past, the 2.0 offers meaningful upgrades without changing the soul of the knife.
“How did we make this better, since it is a tried and true kind of legend that a lot of people depend on during hunting season?” Brian says. “If we were going to make it better, we were going to go all in.”
Steel That Changes the Game: CPM MagnaCut
The original Outfitter was forged in S35VN—a premium stainless steel that served hunters well. But the 2.0 goes further with CPM MagnaCut, a new breed of steel that’s quickly become the gold standard for field knives.
“First things first, it’s a CPM MagnaCut. Better edge retention, way better corrosion resistance, way better steel all the way around,” says Brian.
Developed by metallurgist Dr. Larrin Thomas, MagnaCut delivers elite edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance in one stainless package. Whether you're deep in the Snake River Range or skinning game miles from camp, this blade holds up—and holds sharp.
Grip Built for Real Conditions
The Outfitter 2.0 features a brand-new SureGrip handle, designed for hard use when the weather turns and your hands are wet.
“The new Hi-Viz handle is both G10 and rubberized, so it gives you a way better grip—especially when your hands are wet.”
Available in High-Visibility Orange (easy to find in grass, snow, or field clutter) and our timeless Ironwood, this handle isn’t just beautiful—it’s tactical, rugged, and field-proven.
A Sheath That Works as Hard as You Do
Arguably one of the most exciting upgrades, the Outfitter 2.0 now comes with a custom Kydex sheath, built right across the pass in Victor, Idaho.
“These are actually built right here in Victor. Gives you eight different positions to hold the knife in—so whatever works best for you, you will be able to set this up,” Brian explains. “Believe it or not, we were able to do all those improvements for about $25 more over our standard Outfitter.”
This sheath is no afterthought. It’s a full-featured carry system, precision-molded for security and flexibility. Whether you wear it vertical, scout-style, chest-mounted, or inverted, the sheath adapts to your gear and your mission.
- Weatherproof and durable
- Locks the knife in with zero rattle
- Compatible with belts up to 2" wide
- Field-configurable in 8 positions
This is the sheath that lets you move through thick timber, crawl into cover, or saddle up for long days—without worrying about losing your knife or fighting your draw.
