Description

Brent Mathison builds knives out of Boerne, Texas, as a LoneStar Member of the Texas Knifemakers' Guild — a mark of standing among a community of makers who hold each other to a serious standard. His work favors clean traditional forms, executed with precision and finished by hand.

This Trapper is the classic two-blade pattern — a clip point and a spey blade folding from a single spine — built here in CPM154, a stainless steel known for a strong balance of edge retention and corrosion resistance, well suited to a knife meant for daily carry. The handle is Richlite, a dense resin-set composite prized for its stability and low upkeep, giving this piece a clean, understated presence next to Mathison's more exotic-material builds.

Sourced directly from Mathison by our custom knife buying team at Blade Show 2026, this Trapper is a straightforward, no-fuss piece from a maker equally comfortable working in rare materials or the fundamentals.

Use & Care

This is a one-of-one piece from an independent custom maker, built with materials that deserve a little extra attention.

  • Hand wash only. Wipe down with a soft cloth after use; if it gets wet or dirty, hand wash with warm water and mild soap, then dry completely. Never put this knife in the dishwasher.
  • CPM154 is a stainless steel with strong corrosion resistance, but it should still be dried after exposure to moisture and kept lightly oiled if it won't be used for a while.
  • Richlite is a dense, low-maintenance composite material and requires little upkeep beyond normal hand washing.
  • Store in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.
