Description
Brent Mathison builds knives out of Boerne, Texas, as a LoneStar Member of the Texas Knifemakers' Guild — a mark of standing among a community of makers who hold each other to a serious standard. His work favors clean traditional forms, executed with precision and finished by hand.
This Trapper is a classic two-blade pattern — a clip point and a spey blade folding from a single spine — built for the everyday-carry collector who wants function alongside provenance. The handle is fossilized mammoth bark ivory, its surface a weathered map of black, cream, and amber that formed over tens of thousands of years underground; no two pieces of this material look the same, and none of it can ever be replicated. At 6.5" overall with a 2.75" primary blade, it's sized to sit easily in the hand or the pocket.
Sourced directly from Mathison by our custom knife buying team at Blade Show 2026, this piece represents traditional pocketknife craft paired with a handle material with a story tens of thousands of years in the making.

Use & Care
Use & Care
This is a one-of-one piece from an independent custom maker, built with materials that deserve a little extra attention.
- Hand wash only. Wash by hand with warm water and mild soap immediately after use, then dry completely before storing. Never put this knife in the dishwasher.
- High-carbon and Damascus blades will patina and can rust if left wet. Dry the blade fully after every use, and apply a light coat of mineral oil or knife oil if it won't be used for a while. A patina is normal and part of the character of hand-forged steel — it is not a defect.
- Natural handle materials (antler, ivory, stag, exotic wood, mammoth material) are organic and unique to this piece. Avoid prolonged soaking or exposure to extreme heat or moisture, which can affect the material over time.
- Store in the included sheath or pouch, in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.
- Sharpening: Because this knife is built by an independent maker rather than in our own Victor, Idaho factory, it is not covered under our in-house lifetime free sharpening program. We're happy to help arrange professional sharpening — just reach out to our team.
