About the Handle

Layers of fiberglass, cloth-expoxy are compressed and cooked into G10 sheets. The material is hand-shaped and polished around the knife tang and as the material is ground away, the layers of color reveal themselves in resplendent patterns. The results are colors which seem to live and dance on a handle that is virtually indestructible. The only other folks who are combining this elite handle material with S35vn steel are the US Special Forces. Don't let the pretty handles fool you- these are the highest performance materials on the market- the icing on the cake is they are 100% USA made by skilled American craftsmen.

About the Steel

We have spent the last couple decades on a quest to find the ultimate steel for our knives. This journey has taken us around the world from Sweden to Seki, Japan. We learned a lot from the great traditions of the world, but eventually, we discovered the finest steel in the world was back home in the USA. High tech industries such as aeronautics have been developing supersteels for the last half a century. The same folks that took us to the moon have inadvertently solved the riddle of how to make the perfect steel for kitchen use. The problem has been, when you make the steel super sharp, it also becomes hard and can stain, break and chip easily. Knife makers have struggled to find the right balance by adding specific alloys heat treated in various ways.

S35VN "Powder Metal Steel" solves this problem like no other steel. Molten steel is shot through a nozzle and sprayed into a cool container. As the individual molecules meet the cool air, they form intricate, crystalline structures, like snowflakes. The "super powder" is then combined using an intense compression technique into sheets.

About the blade design

Powder metal steel allows our craftsmen to accentuate the tapering of the blade to realize its maximum potential. The tapering from the spine to the edge lightens the knife and also allows for an incredibly fine edge. Further tapering toward the front of the blade gives extra bite where you begin most of your cuts. In the past you had to choose between toughness and sharpness, this very special material lets you have it all. The difference in the experience on the cutting board is profound.
